PORTLAND (AP) – Mathieu Garon notched his second shutout of the season as the Manchester Monarchs bested the Portland Pirates 3-0 Sunday, extending their perfect record.
Tom Kostoupolos scored a goal and added an assist in Manchester’s seventh consecutive win.
The Pirates (5-2-0-0) failed to score on four power plays, including three five-on-three situations.
The Monarchs (7-0-0-0) grabbed a 1-0 lead 3:37 into the second period when Kostoupolos netted a backhanded shot. Michael Cammalleri made it 2-0 on the power play at 1:00 of the third and Yanick Lehoux scored his ninth of the season at 9:52.
Garon stopped all 31 shots he faced, including a breakaway scoring bid by Tomas Fleischmann at 18:01 of the third. Ouellet made 22 saves in Portland’s second consecutive loss.
