LEWISTON – Jerry Poulin of Fortin’s Funeral Home will be the guest speaker at the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Holy Cross Church Hall. Following a short business meeting, Poulin will make a presentation about funeral arrangement preplanning. Members are invited to attend and have questions ready.

Stories from past

BOWDOIN – The Bowdoin Historical Society will host the annual “Stories from Our Past” session from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, at the Bowdoin PTC Community Building, Route 125.

The topic of the moderated conversation will be one-room schoolhouses. Community members from Bowdoin and beyond are invited to share their stories and hear those of others.

This year’s topic coincides with the effort of Bowdoin to save its last remaining one-room schoolhouse, the Carter School (circa 1887), on the Litchfield Road. Drinks and snacks will be provided. For more information, contact John Lambert at 666-3362.

Legion meeting

AUBURN – Alden M. Gayton Post 31, American Legion, and Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at the post home, 426 Washington St.

On the agenda will be a membership update, committee reports and final plans for the Veterans Day activities on Thursday, Nov. 11. A baked ham dinner will be served at 1 p.m., with a social hour starting at noon.

Special guests will include veterans from the Maine Veterans Home, South Paris; Pat Parr, coordinator of activities; and John Kezal, the Rumford Post. The Silvertones, led by Paul Farrell, will furnish entertainment. A $4 donation by the post members will be appreciated.

Degree work

WALES – Webster Lodge 164, AF and AM, will hold a special communication at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at the Wales Grange/Masonic Hall, 322 Centre Road. Work will be in the Master Mason’s degree by a special degree team. A supper will be served at 6:30. Lodge members and visiting Masons are welcomed.

Boston trip

TURNER – The SAD 52 Adult and Community Education annual day trip to Boston will take place on Saturday, Dec. 4. The 46-passenger bus will depart from Turner Elementary School at 7:30 a.m. Pick-up will also be available at the Auburn turnpike exit.

On arrival in Boston the bus will stop near Faneuil Hall to drop off passengers. Trip fee is $25 for adults and $18 for children 12 and under. Those going must make reservations by Nov. 29. Return time is approximately 8 p.m.
