LISBON FALLS – Gerald Richard Tarr Sr., 77, died early Saturday, Nov. 20, with his family by his side at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, after several days of hospitalization following a sudden illness.

“Gerry” was born in Lisbon Falls, May 20, 1927, the son of Richard W. and Florence Cornish Tarr and was educated in the schools of Lisbon Falls.

He served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific theater of operations as a member of the First Cavalry Regiment.

On Nov. 24, 1951, he married the former Faye V. Gayton in Poland Spring.

He was employed for many years as a member of the custodial and ground crew at Bowdoin College before retiring in 1990.

He was a member of the Lisbon Falls Baptist Church and American Legion Post 158 Lisbon Falls.

He enjoyed the interest of working in the woods, camping, and had a special fondness for all animals. His most important interest were his grandchildren, whom he loved very much.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years of Lisbon Falls; one daughter, Darlene F. Tarr, of Lisbon Falls; one son, Gerald R. Tarr Jr. and his wife, Sherry, of Lisbon Falls; three half-brothers, Lloyd Tarr and his wife, Gene, of Enfield, Conn., Orrison Tarr and his wife, Ann, of Lisbon Falls, and Maurice Tarr and his wife, Sue, of Pickins, N.C.; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Ashley, and Kimberly Tarr.

He was predeceased by a sister, Harriet Fowler; a brother, Kenneth Tarr; and an infant brother. He is also predeceased by his step-mother, Ruth Tarr.
