OTISFIELD – A woman found unconscious in her home by a home health worker Monday was suffering from an overdose of medication, authorities said Tuesday.

Television reports Monday said the woman might have been assaulted.

Maine State Police Sgt. John Shapiro said Tuesday investigators concluded the woman living in a home along Route 121 had suffered from an overdose of medication.

“It was basically an ambulance call,” Shapiro said. “There was no crime.”

State police responded to Wanda Cox’s house after getting a call at 11:46 a.m. Monday from a “panicked” home health care provider who feared her patient may have been the victim of an assault, according to Shapiro.

Shapiro, who is supervising state police response to the call, said Cox was unconscious when she was found. She was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

He wasn’t sure where she was treated or if Cox remained hospitalized Tuesday.
