I just moved to Auburn and many people at my school are being faced with peer pressure. Many people want to be liked, but that’s not all there is to it. They want to be liked by the wrong people.

Have you ever heard the saying “Choose your friends wisely?” If you are being faced with peer pressure, having friends with the same qualities as you can actually help you deal with it. Or you can just simply walk away from peer pressure, but I know with being a kid myself that most kids do not do that. Kids either want to be liked and just go along with it, or they have a higher self-esteem and they walk away. But the only reason why kids actually do give in to peer pressure is they want to become accepted.

Peer pressure can either be a good or a bad thing. Bad peer pressure can make kids do anything to be cool, like piercing, drugs, alcohol, lying to parents or cutting class. Some examples of good peer pressure would be cheering you on when you are doing something or encouraging you to do something worthwhile.

I would like parents to take notice of how their child is doing at school with their friends. It would also be great to have more public awareness about peer pressure.
