Boston – The New England coast south of Cape Cod was tonight tight in the grasp of one of the worst ice embargoes known in recent years. While in Boston harbor the only inconvenience was caused by floating ice, south of the Cape conditions were far different, Nantucket Sound being almost completely closed over, while Vineyard Sound was filled with ice. The Island of Nantucket is cut off from the outside world and until the embargo is lifted there is little probability of the steamer being able to proceed to Wood’s Holl. At Vineyard Haven, the harbor is frozen over and vast fields of ice extended for miles out into Vineyard Sound.

Lewiston’s Jepson Brook Channelization Project continued to receive its share of publicity in 1979. Phase III of the project was completed; and Phase IV will be “put out to bid shortly,” City Engineer Harland Hatch said recently. The third phase, which cost $1.5 million to complete, involved laying new sanitary sewer and storm sewer lines in the Brault Park area and along sections of Russell Street, Pettengill Street and Nelke Place. Phase IV will also consist of constructing a drainage facility, from Brault Street to East Avenue.
