LEWISTON – William K. Jack of Bowdoin, Kathryn M. King of Turner, Joel A. LeBel of Poland, Timothy D. Maurice of Oxford and Juyoung Shim of Auburn were named to the dean’s list at Bates College as a result of their scholastic standings during the first semester of the 2004-05 academic year.

To qualify, a student must maintain a better than “B+” average for the semester for a minimum quality point ratio of 3.6.

Jack, a first-year student, is the son of Ronald Jack and Jane Jack. He is a 2004 graduate of Mt. Ararat High School of Topsham.

King, a senior, is a biology major. The daughter of Neal and Kathryn King, she is a 2001 graduate of Leavitt Area High School in Turner. King was on the Bates women’s basketball and outdoor track teams in 2001-02. She did an internship with Collaborative Refugee Services Program, Lewiston, and volunteered for the Leadership Academy, both in 2002.

King participated in the Career Discovery Internship Program in 2003, was a junior adviser for the school year 2003-2004, and participated in the 2004 Mount David Summit, an annual showcase of student achievement at Bates. She is a resident coordinator and a member of the Bates Emergency Medical Services.

LeBel, a junior, is a philosophy major. The son of Rachel LeBel and Steve LeBel, he is a 2002 graduate of Poland Regional High School.

Maurice, a sophomore dean’s list student, is the son of William and Linda Maurice. He is a 2003 graduate of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School of South Paris.

Shim, a senior, is a biological chemistry major. Originally from Korea, she resides in Auburn with her husband, Changsu Lee, and their daughter, Hana Lee. Shim graduated from Shinmyung Girls’ High School, Inchon, in 1989. Shim participated in the 2004 Mount David Summit, an annual show case of student achievement at Bates, and is a 2002 Dana Scholar.
