AUGUSTA – The trustees of the Maine Higher Education Assistance Foundation are announcing the awarding of 13 scholarships, each for $1,000, to Maine high school graduates attending Maine colleges and universities enrolled in a business-related major.

The foundation was established in the 1950s to support a guarantee fund for student loans. In 1990 the trustees, the Maine Bankers Association’s board of directors, seeking to continue the original intent of the founding members, began a scholarship program funded by the return of the original loan guarantee funds.

This year’s area recipients are as follows:

Emily Archer, Mount Blue High School, University of Maine at Augusta; Tracey Ducharme, Lewiston High School, University of Maine at Lewiston/Auburn; Elizabeth Confer, Brunswick High School, University of Southern Maine; and Seabren Reeves, Sacopee Valley High School, University of Maine at Farmington.
