LEWISTON – Abnaki District Executive Matt Mower said there are many opportunities to become involved with Scouting in the community. Abnaki District serves the traditional programs of Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting and Venturing in an area containing most of Androscoggin and Oxford counties.

In the year and half Mower has served here, he said he has enjoyed working with a great group of volunteers who have helped lead the district to grow in all programs as well as provide more opportunities for the young people they serve.

Abnaki District is always looking for individuals who can help bring the program to more young people. The volunteer staff includes a district commissioner staff, which helps work with and develop Scouting units, and a district committee, which helps with events, training, marketing, membership recruitment and fund-raising. There are also opportunities to get involved as a leader in local troops, packs and Venturing crews.

As part of the Good Turn for America initiative, the district is looking for opportunities for local Scouting units to perform community service. Anyone having projects or ideas can contact Good Turn Chairman Larry Thibault at 783-6860 or dlthibault@yahoo.com.
