HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal on Wednesday sued two companies, accusing them of selling or distributing counterfeit charity bracelets modeled after those sold by the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Blumenthal accused T.Y. Trading of Brookfield and Krauszer’s of Wallingford of selling fake Livestrong bracelets.
Blumenthal said the sale of the bracelets, which the Lance Armstrong Foundation sells to promote cancer survivorship programs, gave consumers the wrong impression that money paid for the bracelets would support the foundation.
Representatives of the two businesses did not return phone calls seeking comment Wednesday.
The Lance Armstrong Foundation did not give the defendants permission to sell the imitation bracelets or use the trademark Livestrong logo, Blumenthal said.
Blumenthal sued the two companies on behalf of the Department of Consumer Protection. He said his lawsuit seeks unspecified penalties and would force the companies to give back profits made from the sale of the bracelets.
