NORWAY – A Memorial Mass for Pope John Paul II will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, at the St. Catherine of Sienna Roman Catholic Church on Paris Street. Everyone is welcome. The Rev. Gerald A. Levesque will preside.

Horseman’s Ball

NORWAY – Tickets are still being sold for the Oxford County Fair Association’s Horseman’s Ball to be held from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, April 9, at the Norway Armory, Elm Street.

The ball was named the Horseman’s Ball to attract attention. Proceeds will benefit the fair association and the harness racing program at the fairgrounds in Oxford.

Ticket prices for the ball have been reduced for Maine National Guard 133rd, 152nd, and 619th Battalions. Tickets information and reservations are available by calling 743-6561, 1-800-861-6561 or by visiting L.F. Pikes and Son on Main Street. The dance is open to the public and includes a Shamrock Sweepstakes.

Tickets for the sweepstakes will put participants in the running with 99 other people for a $1,000 drawing.

Open gym

OTISFIELD – The town of Otisfield will hold open gym from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 9, for middle and high school students at the Otisfield Community School on Powhattan Road. There is not an admission fee for Otisfield residents. Non-residents may attend for a fee of $2 a session. Other open gym dates will be April 16, 23 and 30.

NORWAY – Celebrate National Poetry Month and listen to area poets read their work out loud during “Too Cold for the Porch II” at 7 p.m. Friday, April 15, at Fare Share Commons, 447 Main St. Poets may sign up at 6:30 p.m. to read for five minutes.

This event is a winter version of the Norway Summer Festival Poets on the Porch. Everyone is welcome.

A $1 donation to the Commons is appreciated. It is sponsored by the Mountain Poets Society which meets at 7 p.m. on the last Thursday of each month at Fare Share Commons.

Rummage sale

WEST PARIS – The Goodwill Fellowship Group of the First Universalist Church of West Paris is collecting items for the rummage and white elephant sale to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the church’s location on Main Street.

Anyone who might have clothing or small white elephant items in good condition to donate are invited to drop them off from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at the church.

Wood sale

BUCKFIELD – The Legion Auxiliary will hold a wood sale to benefit sending girls to Girls State at 10 a.m. Friday, April 8, at Northeast Bank, Buckfield Village.

Chinese auction

PARIS – A Chinese auction will be held to benefit Oxford Hills Project Graduation at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. There will be gift certificates, car reconditionings, swimming pool, gift baskets, gifts and 50/50 cash winnings. Refreshments will be on sale.
