FAYETTE – Fayette parents who plan to enroll their children in kindergarten for the 2005-2006 school year at Fayette Central School will need to register their child between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon on Friday, May 6, at the school.

To be eligible to start school this fall, a child must be 5 years of age on or before Oct. 15. Parents should call the school at 685-4770 to schedule an appointment to register a child.

At the time of registration, parents will need to bring the following: the child to be registered, an official birth certificate, current immunization records, child’s Social Security card, proof of residency and custody document, if necessary.

It is required by state law that all children be screened prior to beginning public school. During the registration process, a child will receive a vision, speech, language, cognitive, motor and hearing screening.

These procedures help the school identify children who may need additional help in school.

The school is also planning for next year’s pre-kindergarten program and need to find out how many children living in Fayette are eligible to attend pre-kindergarten (4-years-old) in the fall. Those who have children in their homes or know friends who have a child that will be 4 before Oct. 15 are asked to call the school as soon as possible.
