FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Alyce C. Mahar, 96, formerly of 400 College St., Lewiston, passed away Friday, April 29, in Fayetteville, Ark., during an extended visit at the home of her daughter, Ms. Susan Eads.

She was born in Taunton, Mass., Jan. 30, 1909, the daughter of John F. and Margaret Mariner Cullen.

She was educated in Taunton, Mass., schools and later married Harry V. Mahar of Lubec. They resided in Poland Spring, prior to his death there in 1952.

She was a communicant of St. Joesph’s Church and a member of the Queen’s Guild for many years. As a member of the Women’s Literary Union and Garden Club, she was active in volunteer services. She served as clerk at voting polls and worked for the state of Maine, Department of Probation and Parole.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Charles ( Margaret) Steck of Ocala, Fla.; Mrs. Joseph (Carol) White of Chelmsford, Mass.; Mrs. Edward (Alyce) St. Pierre of Danvers, Mass.; Mrs. Susan Eads of Fayetteville, Ark.; two sons, William E. Mahar and wife, Nancy, of Lewiston, and Dr. Harry Mahar and wife, Joan, of Catharpin, Va.; one brother, John F. Cullen of Taunton, Mass.; three granddaughters, Meghan Mahar, Molly Mahar, and Cindy White; four grandsons, Patrick Mahar, Ted St. Pierre, Timothy and David White; and four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a brother, William A. Cullen, and two sisters, Isabelle Beaulieu and Elsie Duddy.
