PARIS – In observance of National Nursing Home Week, May 8 to 14, the Maine Veterans’ Home will host a series of events to enrich relationships and contacts between residents, youth, community members, family and staff. Nursing Home Week is sponsored by the American Health Care Association and this year’s theme is “Taking Center Stage.”

Plans are under way at the home to provide a wide array of entertainment for the week.

“Our residents and staff have so much to share,” said Matthew Lessard, administrator of the 90-bed facility, “and this seems like an ideal time to present a showcase of events.”

The facility plans a buffet dessert smorgasbord from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 8, to kick off the week and to celebrate Mother’s Day.

In keeping with the theme, there will be musical presentations featuring show tunes, Movie Star Bingo, a movie festival, a masquerade buffet lunch, a “mocktail” party, dancing presentations and a display of resident and staff photos with “my favorite movie ever” quotes.

The Movie Festival will be a compilation of famous movies, with residents naming the films after viewing a short clip. Prizes will be presented during the various festivities.

Friends and families are invited to join in the week-long celebration. For more information, call 743-6300.
