LEWISTON – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society will hold its annual Strutt Your Mutt Dog Walk from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 21, at Railroad Park.

The morning will feature a “Blessing of the Animals” performed by the Rev. Dr. Jodi Hayashida of the Unitarian Univeralist Church in Auburn, the annual Feline Foto Contest, dog baths, bake sale, raffles and canine agility demonstrations.

Attendees can also enter their pooch in one of the talent contests. Classes will include Best Tail Wagger, Least Obedient Dog, Stupid Pet Tricks, Best Smile and Bobbing for Burgers.

All walkers are asked to collect pledges. There will be a registration fee for the talent contests of $3/class or four classes for $10. Walkers who raise more than $100 will be entered into a drawing for many prizes, such as a Planet Dog’ dog bed and Portland Sea Dogs tickets.

The money received goes directly to the homeless, abandoned and abused animals at Humane Society for their food, shelter, veterinary care and a chance at a new home.

This is a “people” walk; dogs are welcome, but not necessary. Dogs must be leashed and have their current rabies vaccination and no dogs in heat should be in the walk.

Pledge sheets are available at the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, the shelter in Auburn and local veterinary offices or online at www.gahumane.org.

The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, 3312 Hotel Road, Auburn, provides a safe haven for approximately 3,600 sick, homeless and abused animals in the greater Androscoggin area a year. The primary support for the shelter comes from fund-raising events, such as the walk, and donations of concerned residents. If interested in learning more about volunteering at the shelter or adopting an animal, call 783-2311 or visit the Web at www.gahumane.org.
