RUMFORD – Francis “Tan” G. Nadeau, 85, of Penobscot Street, died Tuesday, May 10, at Rumford Hospital following a brief illness, with his wife, Lorraine, and niece, Devon, at his side.

He was born in Rumford, on Sept. 14, 1919, a son of Rosaire and Emma (Tremblay) Nadeau. He was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1942.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 with the Medical Detachment 628th Quartermaster Battalion.

He was employed as a millwright at the Oxford, Ethyl and Boise mills. He was a communicant of St. Athanasius and St. John Catholic Church, and was a member of the VFW Post 1641, American Legion Post 24, Fraternal Order of Eagles Post 1248 and the Chisholm Ski Club.

He was a gourmet cook, who enjoyed working around his home and loved animals.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Perry Nadeau, of Rumford; a sister, Beatrice Welding of Rumford; a brother; Robert Nadeau and his wife, Yvonne, of Rumford; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Rosaire in 1976 and Raymond in 1999; and two sisters, Eleanor Newman in 1992 and Gertrude Hargis in 2004.
