FRYEBURG – The board of selectmen will host Al Caron, president and founder of GrowSmart-Maine, a statewide nonprofit organization based in Yarmouth dedicated to “Protecting the Maine we love and building the Maine we need,” at a 6:30 p.m. meeting Thursday, May 12, at the Molly Ockett Middle School multi-purpose room.

Caron will discuss smart growth development principles. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and serves as chairman of the Freeport Planning Board.

Through his business and volunteer efforts, Caron has been involved in a wide range of initiatives and changes in Maine, including the BIW modernization, the removal of the Edwards Dam in the Kennebec River, an analysis of public attitudes on sprawl for the State Planning Office and the Maine Telecommunications Forum.
