SUMNER – Hartford-Sumner Elementary School’s young Destination Imagination team competed in the Western Maine Regional Competitions and won first place in March.

The team also won Destination Imagination’s most prestigious award, the DaVinci Award, for their teamwork, script, humor, costumes and creativity. Most recently, the team won first place again in the state competition. The team once again took home the DaVinci Award, an unusual feat.

The challenge that faces the team now is raising enough money to travel to Knoxville, Tenn., in late May to compete in Global Finals. It will cost approximately $1,000 a student for travel and accommodations at the University of Tennessee. There are seven members and two coaches on the team.

Fund-raising effort have been under way with a supper, raffles and a bottle drive. The biggest fund-raiser will be held Sunday, May 15, when an auction will be held at 2 p.m. at the Oddfellow Theater in Buckfield, hosted by Michael Miclon. Items have been donated from area business and items include a cord of firewood, movie passes and a new Kayak.
