LEWISTON – The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine will host its fifth annual Walk For Wishes on Thursday, May 26, at seven locations in southern Maine, including the Armory. Registration and entertainment will begin at all locations at 5 p.m., and the walks will begin at 6. Prizes and raffle drawings will be awarded after each walk, at approximately 7 p.m.

More than 50 children in Androscoggin County alone have received, or are in the process of receiving, their greatest wish. This month 5-year-old Jenna Doucette of Lewiston will travel to Florida to stay at the new Nickolodean Hotel and explore Walt Disney World.

In the fall, Kailee Childs, 13, of Auburn, will take a Disney cruise through the Caribbean with her parents and five siblings. And earlier this year, Zachary Bellavance, 16, of Lewiston, traveled to the Australian Open and met his tennis heroes, Andy Roddick and Andre Agassi. He helped Agassi warm up before a match.

Prizes will be awarded to individuals and teams who collect more than $200 in pledges. Adults who raise at least $100 and youths under 18 who raise at least $50 will receive a free Walk For Wishes T-shirt.

The top under-18 fund-raiser of all seven walk locations will win a custom-fitted mountain bike. Any individual who raises at least $1,000 will be entered into a drawing for four box seat tickets to a 2005 Red Sox game, including round trip limo service from Portland. All walkers will receive a “share the power of a wish” wrist band.

Residents who would like to register for the walk can call (866) 704-WALK or visit www.maine.wish.org/walk_2005.
