Swingtime began in 2000 when Elaine Bender on keyboards was joined by Earland Welch on clarinet. Bob Holmes on bass guitar and Tom Macomber on saxophone soon joined. Drummer Phil Perkins became a full-time member of the group in 2002.

The band, which plays easy-listening swing tunes, has appeared throughout central Maine, including the Augusta Country Club, Samoset Resort in Rockport, the governor’s mansion (Blaine House), Poland Spring, Jewett Hall at University of Maine in Augusta, Rock on the River Hallowell and Old Hallowell Day celebrations.

The band also plays at Togus Veterans Center and the Cohen Center as well as at reunions, birthdays and receptions. Band members have just completed their second CD.

They refer to themselves as “Maine’s little big band.” To contact Swingtime, call Elaine Bender at 626-3096 or e-mail her at mainepianogal@aol.com or call Earland Welch at 582-3037.
