YARMOUTH — With the score knotted at three in the top of the seventh inning, Jon Rutt came home on a two-strike squeeze bunt by Andy Allen to lift St. Dom’s to a 4-3 victory over North Yarmouth Academy in WMC baseball play on Wednesday.
The Saints (11-0) entered the seventh down 3-2 and tied it up after Michael Carpenter singled, stole second and third, and then scored on a passed ball. Brady Blackman earned the win with seven solid innings pitched and eight strikeouts recorded.
The Panthers (6-4) took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after Tim Deluca was plated on a single by Sean Lynch.
Mountain Valley 11, Carrabec 0
RUMFORD — Chris Cayer fired a one-hitter as Mountain Valley cruised to an easy 11-0 win over Carrabec in MVC baseball action on Wednesday.
Cayer (2-0) finished with nine strikeouts and allowed only one batter to reach base in the game to earn the win for the Falcons (9-1). Shawn Marr hit a two RBI double and Korey Staires knocked in three runs to spark the Mountain Valley offense.
The Cobras’ (1-9) starting pitcher Tim Therrian suffered the loss, surrendering 11 runs over five innings.
Wiscasset 11, Dirigo 9
DIXFIELD – Craig Zeigler had two hits and three RBIs to lead Wiscasset to a 11-9 victory over Dirigo in MVC baseball action on Wednesday.
Alex Villaneuva chipped in for the Redskins (5-4) with a double and two RBIs, while Ben Emery added three hits. Ben Matzell handled pitching duties, holding the Cougars (4-7) at bay until their big five-run rally in the seventh inning.
Chris Richards went 3-for-5 at the plate for Dirigo, highlighted by two doubles and five RBIs. Starting pitcher Spencer Berry added two hits and one RBI. Berry suffered the loss after a damaging first four innings.
Telstar 6, Lisbon 1
BETHEL – Josh Longway scattered three hits and received strong support at the plate as Telstar defeated Lisbon 6-1 in MVC baseball action on Wednesday.
Longway helped himself at the plate by belting out a double, while Kevin Zinchuk also had a double. Ryan Savage contributed to the victory as well with a pair of hits.
Mike Wilkins and Jacob Sprinkle split pitching duties for the Greyhounds (3-9), with Wilkins handling the first four innings and taking the loss.
Livermore Falls 5, Jay 4
LIVERMORE FALLS – Dane Hanson struck out 10 batters and got just enough offensive help to allow Livermore Falls to come away with a narrow 5-4 victory over arch-rival Jay in an MVC baseball game on Wednesday.
Levi Armandi led the Andies (7-5) with two hits and three RBIs, while Brad Bryant and Tyler Cote tallied two hits apiece.
Ryan Bourassa led the Tigers (6-6) with an RBI double, while Steve Nelson handled pitching duties and suffered the loss. The Andies were down 2-0 after two innings, then got things turned around with four runs in the third.
EL 4, Mt. Blue 2
AUBURN – Robbie Leighton scored the eventual game-winning run on a wild pitch as Edward Little grabbed a 4-2 win over Mt. Blue in KVAC baseball action Wednesday.
Leighton stroked a one-out single in the third inning for the Red Eddies (9-3), before advancing to second base on a fielders’ choice, stealing third and scoring on the wild pitch. Kevin Pontbriand contributed a pair of hits, while David Lutz provided an insurance run with a solo homer in the fifth inning.
The Cougars (8-4) closed the gap to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning, but the Edward Little pitching effort was able to shut down Mt. Blue the rest of the way.
Georges Valley 3, Monmouth 3
MONMOUTH — Georges Valley and Monmouth finished in a 3-3 tie after their MVC baseball game was called in the eighth inning Wednesday due to inclement weather.
The Buccaneers (4-5-1) entered the seventh inning down 3-1 and tied the game on a two RBI single by Logan Rackliffe that plated Josh Hall and Mike Thomas.
The Mustangs (11-1-1) were paced by Shawn Holbrook and Andy Bellmore who each knocked doubles in the game.
Oak Hill 6, Rockland 5
ROCKLAND – Eathan Guerette crossed the plate with the game-winning run in the top of the sixth inning as Rockland pitchers Chris Sturks and Josh Fogg surrendered three straight walks to allow Oak Hill to pull out a 6-5 win in KVAC baseball play.
The Raiders (5-6) used back-to-back singles to load the bases in the sixth inning setting the stage for the win. Brian Bisson was the only repeat hitter for Oak Hill.
Mike Eaton turned in a complete game effort, striking out eight while allowing a single walk to record the win.
Craig Morrill suffered the loss with relief help from Chris Sturks, and Josh Fogg. Sturks (home run) and Wade Oliver (triple) carried the big sticks for the Tigers (7-4).
Gould 8, Hebron 7
BETHEL – Gould Academy came back from trailing 5-0 after two innings to edge Gould 8-7 in a Maine Association for Independent Athletic Directors (MAISAD) playoff game on Wednesday.
Will Carver led Gould with three hits and one RBI, while starting pitcher Joel Leonardi added two hits. Leonardi hurled the first six innings and picked up the win when his team put the tying and go-ahead runs on the board in the fifth.
Ryan Sheehan and Matt Gilman led Hebron with two hits apiece, with Gilman belted out a double. Brandon Rolfe started out on the mound and suffered the loss.
Poland 8, Cape Elizabeth 2
CAPE ELIZABETH – Alex Smith belted a two-run double in the third inning to power Poland to a 8-2 rout over Cape Elizabeth in a WMC baseball matchup on Wednesday.
Stevie Ray smacked an RBI double for the Knights (10-1), while pitcher Max Levine also ripped a double. Levine scattered six hits in seven innings of work to record the win.
Hans Gruber started out on the mound for Cape (9-2), then was relieved in the sixth by BJ Murphy. Poland put five runs on the board in the first three innings, but Gruber was credited with the loss.
Lacrosse
Morse 14, Oak Hill 9
WALES – Jordan Buzzell scored five goals and added an assist to propel Morse to a 14-9 win over Oak Hill in boys’ lacrosse action.
The Shipbuilders (4-5) used a 6-3 run in the third quarter to put the game out of reach with Buzzell, and Vince Bosso (three goals) leading the charge.
The Raiders (4-5) were paced by Joey Gilbert and Casey Behne with three goals each.
Lewiston 8, Lincoln 7
LEWISTON — Travis Lebrun netted the winning goal in overtime to lift Lewiston to an 8-7 win over Lincoln in KVAC lacrosse action on Wednesday.
Jon Fournier scored four goals and assisted on three more to strengthen the Blue Devils’ (7-2) offensive attack. Goaltender Jon Collette earned the win with three saves on 17 shots on goal.
Nate Elowe and Kosta Gerrity scored two goals apiece for the Eagles (3-2).
Waynflete 8, St. Dom’s 7
PORTLAND — Will Paradis scored two goals and tallied two assists for Waynflete as it squeezed by St. Dom’s with an 8-7 win in WMC lacrosse play Wednesday.
Nate Johnson added two goals for the Flyers (7-1) and David Cutter, TC Haffenreffer, Spence Libby and Eiza Moser scored a goal each in the win.
Kevin Autzen made 14 saves on 21 shots in the net to earn the win.
Kevin Laplante led the Saints’ (4-4) with two goals scored and two assists.
