AUBURN – Allie Sasser and Ashley Pepin belted out three hits apiece Wednesday to lead Edward Little to a 14-4 rout over Mt. Blue in a KVAC softball matchup.
Lyndsey St. Hilaire and catcher Sam Nickerson contributed for the Red Eddies (3-9) with two hits apiece. Katelyn Chamberlain started out on the mound for EL and picked up the win.
Pitcher Meghan Richards and catcher Natasha Howard led the Cougars (1-11) with two hits apiece. Richards went the distance and was credited with the loss.
Winthrop 7, Hall-Dale 3
WINTHROP — Nic Emery had two singles, scored two runs and knocked in a run to pace Winthrop to a 7-3 win over Hall-Dale in MVC softball action Wednesday.
Julie Ketchen singled, drew a walk, was hit by a pitch and scored three runs to help the Ramblers (1-9) secure the victory. Nic Emery had five strikeouts in six innings to register the mound win.
Jess Symes went 2-for-3 with a run batted in for the Bulldogs (1-10). Hall-Dale starting pitcher Jocelyn Tripp notched five strikeouts in her six innings of work.
Livermore Falls 2, Jay 1
LIVERMORE FALLS – Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Livermore Falls crossed the plate with a pair of unearned runs to hand previously unbeaten Jay a 2-1 setback in MVC softball play on Wednesday.
Rachel Ventrella led off the inning with a walk, advanced to third on a Danielle Gray double, and tied the game when Sarah Hamilton scratched out a sacrifice fly. Gray would scamper across the plate with the game-winner when Hillary Hemminger lined a shot to right field and the fielder decided to take the sure out instead of a play at the plate.
Gray picked up the win, striking out seven to spin a complete game gem. Bree Loon suffered the loss despite 10 strikeouts.
Rockland 9, Oak Hill 0
ROCKLAND – Caitlyn Hynes twirled a complete game shutout, striking out eight while walking one as Rockland cruised to a 9-0 win over Oak Hill in KVAC softball action on Wednesday.
Hynes helped her own cause with a pair of hits, including a triple with two RBIs. Micky McCorism and Dana Clark added a pair of hits. Danni Potvin suffered the loss despite going the distance.
Dirigo 3, Wiscasset 2
DIXFIELD — Dani Thompkins scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and lift Dirigo to a triumphant 3-2 win over Wiscasset in MVC softball action on Wednesday.
The Cougars (4-7) entered the sixth down 2-1 before Thompkins tied the game with a clutch double that drove in Michelle Holmquist and tied the game at 2. Thompkins finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and one run batted in. Abby Fenstermacher (3-3) pitched seven innings and allowed only one earned run to notch the win.
Rachel Gray surrendered two earned runs and struck out two hitters over seven innings on the mound for the Redskins (4-7).
Cape Elizabeth 3, Poland 2
CAPE ELIZABETH — With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Maureen Kertes scampered home on a passed ball to give Cape Elizabeth a 3-2 win in a hard-fought WMC matchup against Poland on Wednesday.
With the Capers (8-3) down 2-1 in the fifth inning, Erica Lage smacked an RBI double to tie the game at 2, a score that would hold until the bottom of the seventh. Jackie Moran went the distance for Cape Elizabeth, striking out eight batters and allowing two runs for the win.
Mallory Huskins and Robyn Gauthier drove in a run each for the Knights (6-5).
Mountain Valley 16, Carrabec 3
RUMFORD — Abby Mills, Krista Arsenault and Sarah Waite combined to hold Carrabec to just four hits as Mountain Valley cruised to an easy 16-3 win in MVC softball play on Wednesday. Mills, Arsenault and Tanya Nichols each doubled to spark the Falcons (3-7) offensively and help secure the victory.
Sarah Belanger was the pitcher of record for the Cobras (1-9).
