PORTLAND – Frederick “Rick” Hunnewell Jr., 54, passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 2.

He grew up and spent most of his life in New Gloucester and Gray. He was a hard worker, and besides working for himself and others in the concrete business, he also worked for his dad at Hunnewell Excavation for more than 25 years, until Fred Sr. passed away in 2003. He then completely took over the business for his dad and continued snow plowing in the winter.

His life was his family, the farm, and the company. He also enjoyed his grandchildren because they made them laugh. The only time he was relaxed in the last few years was with his grandchildren or four-wheeling with his friends and family.

There are too many family members, extended family, and friends to mention, but he was our rock, and it is hard to think of how to get along without him. Rick would be proud to have worked the last day of his life.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sandra B. Hunnewell; daughters, Samantha Lindberg, and Shana Hunnewell; and son, Frederick Hunnewell III, all of Gray. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Cheyenne Lindberg of Gray, Frederick Hunnewell IV of New Gloucester, and Dakota Hunnewell of Gray. He is also survived by two sisters, Diane Langlois and Ronda Perkins; and a brother, John Hunnewell, all of New Gloucester.

He was predeceased by his parents, Irene Hunnewell in January of 2000, and Frederick Hunnewell Sr. in July 2003.
