OES meeting

AUBURN – Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St. The chapter will honor all members in District 4.

The meeting will be preceded by a potluck supper at 6:30 p.m. All Eastern Star members are welcome.

Grange to elect

AUBURN – Members of Danville Junction Grange 65 will meet for dinner at the Village Inn at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9. After dinner they will hold a business meeting at the hall at 7 p.m. for election of officers. For reservations, call Glenys Ryder at 783-6897 by Wednesday, June 8.

Going to pageant

LEWISTON – Janet Wilson, chosen Mrs. Maine United States, will represent the state in the Mrs. United States Pageant in Las Vegas during the week of July 24.

Wilson, 35, is the mother of three, Kristy-Mae Lacombe, 15, Scott Wilson Jr., 14, and Brent Lacombe, 13. Her husband, Scott Wilson Sr., is a federal firefighter at the Brunswick Naval Air Station.

Wilson is the office manager at Outsource Works/Faithworks, a nonprofit company located in Lewiston.

Seniors dinner

AUBURN – The New Auburn Senior Citizens will have a fried chicken dinner at noon Wednesday, June 15, at the St. Louis Church basement hall for members only. Cost is $3. Tickets must be purchased by Wednesday, June 8.

The regular meeting was held June 1 with Virginia Levasseur, president, presiding. A moment of silence was observed for a deceased member, Adrienne Bergeron. June birthdays were noted and small gifts given.

New members welcomed were Jeannine Cyr, Georgette Berube, Louise Chabot and Noella Veillette.

A lunch at Julien’s in Gray is planned for Monday, June 20, and a trip to Foster’s Clambake in York is planned for July 13. Call Ginger at 783-0273 for more information and to sign up. The winner of the handmade wool braided rug was Norman Gagnon.

Crafters who signed up to show their crafts are reminded to bring them in Tuesday, June 14, between 1 and 3 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places.

Pot of gold winners were Norm Gagnon, Jeannette Potvin, Flo Webber and Irene Beauchesne.

The meeting adjourned and a light lunch was served with bingo following. The next regular meeting will be Wednesday, July 6.

Town celebration

MECHANIC FALLS – Residents of Mechanic Falls are invited to take part in a community celebration at 5:45 p.m. Friday, June 10, to honor Principal of the Year Mary Martin and Town Manager of the Year Dana Lee. Highlights will include a free barbecue, entertainment, tangible means of celebrating the two awardees and tributes of varying seriousness. The festivities will take place at Elm Street School.

DAR program

SABATTUS – Regent Sheila Desgrosseilliers said that Burnt Meadow Chapter, Daughter of the American Revolution, will hold its monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at the home of Violet Gerber in Sabattus. Following the business meeting, Corley Anne Byras will do a program on Rosie the Riveter.

Red Hat trip

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Red Hat Society is planning a day trip to Mohegan Sun on Wednesday, July 13. Departures from Lewiston and Auburn will cost $26 a person with $40 casino bonus.

Social meetings

LEWISTON – ASL students, deaf members of the community and friends are gathering for social interaction, fun and learning from 6 to 8 p.m every other Wednesday at Just Joan’s Caf, located in the rear of Mr. Paperback, Promenade Mall, Lisbon Street.
