BRIDGTON – Bridgton Academy’s reunion 2005 was held on the North Bridgton campus June 3 to 5. Two local men were among the honorees at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday: George G. Holden of Harrison and John H. Hapenney of North Bridgton.

Holden, a member of the class of 1940, was named to the Hall of Fame as a student/athlete for his participation in athletics at Bridgton Academy and beyond and as a contributor for his outstanding contributions to youth sports, particularly his many years of work on behalf of the Harrison Recreation Committee, promoting baseball, swimming and basketball.

Holden has been married to the former Jean Russell (Bridgton Academy class of 1950) for 50 years. The Holdens have four daughters, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Hapenney taught history and economics and coached football, hockey and basketball at Bridgton Academy for nearly 30 years (1964-1993). During his tenure, Hapenney was also intramural softball director, dormitory director and he filmed innumerable football games.

Hapenney was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a faculty member/coach for his outstanding contributions to the academy community and to athletics. He and his wife, Sally, also retired from Bridgton Academy after 37 years as a teacher and director of college counseling, have a daughter, Susan.

Many local alumni attended the reunion. Waterford residents included Betty Millett Maxfield 30, Virginia Tyler Cutler 35, Gordon Knight 48, Virginia Gammon Knight 49 and David Marston 53. From Naples were Eddie Webber 32, who attended with his daughter and granddaughter.

Ruby Chapman Whitney 34 of Casco and Nancy Flewelling Holden 47 of North Bridgton were in attendance. Harrison alumni include Madelyn Buck 37, George Holden 40, Jean Russell Holden 50, Margaret Buck Caswell 44 and Barbara Lord Dalgaard 48
