LEWISTON – In anticipation of the increasing need for volunteers with the opening of the new hospice house in November, Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice will hold an information session at its Lewiston office, 15 Strawberry Ave., on Monday, June 27. The session will be repeated at the Oxford office at 127 Pottle Road on Tuesday, June 28. Both sessions will begin at 5:30 p.m.

“There are a great many hospice volunteer opportunities with Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice,” said Nancy Greene, volunteer coordinator. “With the addition of the hospice house, the opportunities are expanding dramatically. Volunteers may choose to work directly with patients receiving care at the hospice house and their families while others may choose to support the hospice team through administrative assignments.

“At the hospice house volunteers may also serve as greeters, help with child care for young visitors to the facility, run errands and even help with gardening. There really is something for anyone with a desire to make a difference in the lives of our hospice patients and their families.”

All hospice volunteers, including those working at the hospice house, must complete a 24-hour training program. The program is offered free and prepares participants to work with terminally ill patients and their families. The next hospice training program is scheduled from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning July 12.
