LEWISTON – Poland Spring emerged from the losers’ bracket to capture top honors in the ASA Men’s Slow Pitch Class D District 9 Tournament held during the weekend on Lewiston-Auburn diamonds.

Melanson-Webber was unbeaten entering the finals, but Poland Spring beat the Auburn entry 11-1 to force a second and deciding contest. Poland Spring of the Lewiston Rec National League then prevailed 8-3 for the championship.

The top 8 clubs have qualified for the State Class D Tournament, as follows: 1. Poland Spring, 8-1; 2. Melanson-Webber, 4-2; 3. Le Nationale, 3-2; 4. Carlton Club, 3-2; 5. Blue Goose, 3-2; 6. Buddyz Construction, 2-2; 7. Meineke Car Care, 2-2; Sabine Productions, 2-2. The other 8 entries can participate in the Class E Southern Invitational slated for July 29-31 at Augusta. They include: Major Automotive, 1-2; Motor Home, 1-2; New England Home Mortgage, 1-2; Reggie’s Sales & Service, 1-2; Ducharme Masonry, 0-2; Fast Breaks, 0-2; Scott Thayer, 0-2; Tail Gators, 0-2.
