LEWISTON – Gloria F. Locke, 78, of 2 Fairlawn Ave., died unexpectedly after a brief illness on Thursday, July 7, at CMMC, surrounded by her loving husband and family.

Born in Lewiston, May 9, 1927, she was a daughter of Timothy and Lucille Meader O’Leary. She graduated from Lewiston High School in the Class of 1944.

She was employed as a bookkeeper for Shapiro Bros. Shoe Co., an office worker at Lewiston Hardware Supply Co., a waitress at the Chuck Wagon Restaurant in Lewiston, and retired as a waitress at Marco’s Restaurant.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Lewiston.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 59 years, Maurice E. Locke of Lewiston, whom she married on Dec. 1, 1945. Together, they enjoyed spending winter months at their home in Holiday, Fla. She took pleasure in waterfront dining in Florida, relaxing in the sun on the local Florida beaches, coastal Maine drives, and always cherished family visits and gatherings.

Gloria was an avid NASCAR, football and horseracing fan, always tracking her favorites with much enthusiasm. She valued the time she had with her dearest companion, a cocker spaniel named Nibys, who passed away in 1998 after 12 years of happiness and faithful devotion.

Gloria was a wonderful cook and always made sure that everybody had more than enough food at dinnertime. Her family will forever remember her special spaghetti sauce, delectable pork chop casserole and delicious desserts.

She is also survived by four daughters and their husbands, Maureen and Marcel Landry of Kemah, Texas, Kathleen and Donald Turgeon of Hartford, Susan and Timothy Coady of Virginia Beach, Va., Darlin and Allen Austin of Lewiston; a son, Bill and his wife, Doreen Locke, of Lewiston; her grandchildren, Kristan Landry, Teague and Dana Landry, Shannon and Mark Hatch, Sara and Jared Richardson, Sommer Locke, Joey Locke, Joshua Locke, Derrick, Brittany and Jacob Coady, and Jennah and Erik Austin; and her great-grandchildren, Devyn and Corbyn Hatch and Taylor Whitmire.

She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Patricia Cadwell; and a brother, Daniel O’Leary.

She will be sadly missed as she was dear to our hearts and was always so concerned for her family’s well-being. We love you, Mom.
