CANTON – Charles Herbert Burgess, 72, a longtime resident of Victorian Villa in Canton, passed away Sunday, July 24.

He was born on April 23, 1933, in Frye, the son of William and Flora Bushley Burgess. He attended Mexico schools and for many years worked in the woods with his father in Frye.

He would often state that he dreamed of leaving the nursing home and returning to Frye to pan for gold in the Swift River.

He is survived by a brother, Ashley Burgess and his wife, Connie, of Lewiston; four sisters, Marilyn MacDonald of St. John, New Brunswick, Margaret Louise Brooks and her husband, Ralph, of Seaside, Ore., Marie Jonaitis of Brunswick, and Sally Russell and her husband, Otho “Bud,” of New Gloucester; a sister-in-law, Nellie Burgess of Rumford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, William Burgess and Richard Burgess; a sister, Dorothy MacDonald and her husband, Edmond; and a brother-in-law, Richard MacDonald.

The family of Charles H. Burgess would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the nursing staff and other related staff members at the Victorian Villa Nursing Home for the excellent care given to their family member.
