Two Lewiston road projects and some Auburn paving work could mean more traffic delays this week around the Twin Cities.

Crews from Northern Utilities will begin work along the westernmost lane of East Avenue between Lisbon and Sabattus streets beginning at 7 p.m. today. They are scheduled to tear up the road at two places, in front of Janelle Street and along Charles, Columbia and Homefield streets.

That lane will be closed overnight but should reopen early Thursday morning, according to Josh Labrie, administrative aide for the Lewiston Public Works Department.

Northern Utilities is replacing its network of cast iron pipes under Lewiston’s streets.

Traffic along Webster Street will be detoured Thursday and Friday for a different kind of project. City crews are separating the sewer and storm drain systems in that area.

Webster Street will be closed during that work. Traffic will be detoured onto Pleasant and Sabattus streets.

Road work in Auburn could tie up traffic along Center Street and along Turner Street beginning Friday.

City crews will be grinding off old pavement and putting down new asphalt in two areas. The first is along Center Street for about 600 feet around the Burger King. The second is along Turner Street between Mayfield Road and Frenchs Lane.

Paul Niehoff, Auburn’s pavement management technician, said crews should finish those projects Friday.
