Bridge winners
RUMFORD – Rumford Duplicate Bridge winners for Sept. 15 were: first, Jennifer Cohen and Debbie Stewart; second, Anna Cormier and Woody Mercier; third, Lillian Irish and Jutta Thibodeau; and fourth, Donna and Ozzie Swett.
Scholarships
PARIS – Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma will award a $300 scholarship to one recipient this fall. Applicants must be women who have completed their freshman year of college, are going into the field of teaching, and come from a town in one of the following school districts: 17, 21, 39, 43, 44, Union 21, or the town of Peru.
Applicants should submit a letter telling about their educational background, future plans and why they feel they would be a good recipient. The deadline for letters of application is Oct. 21. Submit the application to Toni Hamlin, 8 Frederick Ave., South Paris, ME 04281.
Delta Kappa Gamma is a society of women educators whose goal is to help recognize women in education and promote professional growth.
Calendars ready
MEXICO – The Mexico Fire Department has been working on a community calendar for the last few months. Members have been collecting birth dates, anniversaries and in memory of dates. All are listed on the calendars, which are on sale for $5 each.
The calendars can be picked up at the Mexico Fire Department. All proceeds benefit the Mexico Fireman’s Relief Association. The calendars feature a color photograph of all three of the department’s fire trucks.
Those who did not get their name on this year’s calendar can drop give names and dates at the Mexico Fire Station for next year’s calendar.
Hunter safety
ANDOVER – The Andover Recreation Committee will sponsor a hunter safety course on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24 and 25, at the town hall. Participants must be 10 years or older. To sign up or for more information, contact Pam Pace at 392-2390.
Centennial dance
RUMFORD – St. Athanasius and St. John’s Church will hold a centennial dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Sept. 24, at the American Legion. Music will be by Jay and Tammy Roy, with Terry Moore playing piano. Cost is $4 a person.
Gospel concert
RUMFORD – The Dunnemans, gospel singers from Binghamton, N.Y., will sing in West Paris and Rumford on Sunday, Sept. 25. At 9:15 a.m., they will be the special musicians at the West Paris Baptist Church. At 11 a.m. they will be at the Rumford First Baptist Church and at 6:30 p.m. they will give a concert at the Rumford First Baptist Church.
Reg and Gretchen Dunneman sing their own blend of gospel music, including southern gospel, traditional, hymn, classical and contemporary Christian styles. The Dunnemans have produced several recordings and have sung with the Binghamton Madrigal Choir, which performs “a cappella” choral works. More information can be obtained at www.thedunnemans.net.
