T3, R11 (AP) – A Massachusetts man drowned Thursday while fishing on the west branch of the Penobscot River in Piscataquis County, wardens said Thursday.

The man’s body was spotted by fishermen at 11:15 a.m. and it was recovered by wardens nearly two hours later, said Mark Latti, spokesman for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife in Augusta.

The victim, Charles Zimmerman, 51, of Upton, Mass., was outfitted in fishing gear including waders, Latti said. The body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta for an autopsy, he said.

Zimmerman, who was staying at a motel in Millinocket, was last seen Thursday morning when he left to go fishing, Latti said.
