LEWISTON – The Safe Haven Committee of Androscoggin County announces the availability of funding through the Department of Justice, Community Capacity Development Office, Weed and Seed Program.
The goal of the funding is to reduce crime and disorder by supporting organizations/ collaborations to work toward developing strategies, policies and programs that will address positive change around the issues prioritized by Safe Haven Committee, including anti-bullying, communication and other initiatives that are based on its mission.
The grants are open to nonprofit organizations that serve residents of Androscoggin County. Applicants must make a direct connection between their project and criminal justice to be considered.
For proposal packets, contact Erich Buschmann, Weed and Seed Project coordinator, at 373-1140 or [email protected]. Grant proposals will be due Nov. 29. More information can be found at www.mainecjp.org.
The Department of Justice Weed and Seed Program is based on a twofold strategy: law enforcement agencies cooperate to “weed” community problems, community partners “seed” the area through programs and services to enhance opportunities for local residents. Funds are provided through the grant process.
Locally the program is administered by Volunteers of America Northern New England, a nonprofit organization that provides local human service programs, and opportunities for individual and community involvement.
