MEREDITH, N.H. (AP) – Two of New Hampshire’s biggest winter events – a sled dog race and a fishing derby – will be held the same February weekend.

The Great Rotary Fishing Derby and World Championship Sled Dog Derby will be held Feb. 10-12. The events normally are separated by a week, but the Meredith Rotary Club moved its event up a week to boost participation.

Officials are working to make sure the two events don’t create conflicts. The sled dog club is concerned fishermen will use snowmobiles to bring catches to derby headquarters in Meredith Bay and to reach fishing spots on Lake Winnisquam near the 17-mile race trail.

Fishing derby officials say they will tell participants to move off trails when they see sled dog teams.
