LITCHFIELD – A gun and a safe found in a Sabattus sand pit this week led police investigators to another six weapons reported stolen from a Wales home in April.
Androscoggin County Sheriff’s officials Tuesday night went to a home on Center Road in Litchfield where they recovered a half-dozen handguns and rifles.
The total is half of the number of guns reported stolen in April. In that case, a home near Sabattus Pond in Wales was burglarized and 14 firearms stolen.
When police searched the Litchfield home with warrants about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, they also questioned the man who lives there. No arrests were made.
“It’s still an active investigation, and we are still working on suspects,” said Androscoggin County Sgt. James Jacques.
Police believe they have developed leads on the whereabouts of the remaining seven guns stolen in the April heist.
