WATERVILLE – Defenseman Joe Rothwell tallied a goal and an assist as Colby beat New England College 4-2 in men’s hockey Friday.

The Mules (9-2) trailed 1-0 in the opening period before Josh Reber, Patrick Rutherford and Rothwell each scored to close the period at 3-1. The Mules received an insurance goal from Greg Osborne in the third.

Jeremy Koning and RA Mobile had goals for New England College.

Ben Grandjean made 24 saves to earn the win between the pipes. Scott Gray also stopped 24 shots in a losing cause.

Men’s basketball

Maine Maritime 91, UMPI 64

CASTINE – Marc McCorrison had a perfect 7-for-7 shooting night at the free-throw line en route to 19 points in Maine Maritime Academy’s 91-64 victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle in men’s basketball Friday.

Brandon Hall chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Mariners (3-5). Brett Miles paced the Owls (1-11) with 21 points and Jonathan Cooley added 16 points.

Women’s hockey

Middlebury 4, Bowdoin 2

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Emily Quizon scored the eventual game-winner as Middlebury notched a 4-2 win over Bowdoin in women’s hockey action Friday.

The Polar Bears (4-4) tied the game, 1-1, early with a nice crossing pass from Kristen Cameron that Beth Battin was able to convert, and took a short-lived lead in the second period when Cameron circled the net before scoring with a backhander.

Colby 3, Williams 0

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Genevieve earned her first shutout of the season with 30 saves as Colby blanked Williams 3-0 in women’s hockey action Friday.

Playing in her first game of the season, Lindsay Tedeschi scored the first two goals for the Mules (5-3). Rebecca Julian notched her fourth goal of the season at 9:16 of the second period on a power play to round out the scoring.
