AUBURN – A Lewiston man whose last trial ended last year with a hung jury was indicted Wednesday on new charges stemming from the 2004 fatal shooting of a friend.

Brandon Knight, 20, was charged by an Androscoggin County grand jury with reckless or criminally negligent manslaughter with the use of a dangerous weapon. He also was charged with aggravated assault.

Knight was freed in November after jurors deadlocked on a manslaughter charge. He admitted to the shooting but claimed it was accidental.

Knight’s friend, Shawn Fitzsimmons, died of a single gunshot wound to the head on Sept. 11, 2004.
