During Catholic Schools Week, Holy Cross School held an annual spelling bee consisting of sixth through eighth graders. With a terrible practice round, it seemed as if this was going to go by faster than we expected. With Mrs. Peggy DeBlois, Mrs. Barbara McManus, Mrs. Carmen Hunter, and Mr. Marc Lepage as the judges, we began. Jacob Lapierre was appointed the first word “minority.” All four judges nodded noting that he was correct! Throughout the long process, it was entertaining and a great way to learn words that you may have pondered in your mind before. Later on, all the eighth graders had spelled incorrectly, ending with Josh Charest. Only one sixth and two seventh graders were left on the playing field. And then there were two, Susannah Wong and Kyle Grant. “Kimono” was the last word, which Susannah had to respond to correctly for the win. With no hesitation she spelled the word, and was correct!! It was then declared that she was the winner of the Holy Cross Spelling Bee 2006.
