WILTON – The now-closed Hawk’s Nest Restaurant at 232 Route 2 was broken into sometime over the weekend, Police Chief Wayne Gallant said Wednesday.
The owner of the restaurant, who Gallant said closed the eatery for good last October, “went to pick up some items” there Wednesday. When he went in, he realized someone else had been inside since he was last there. A small window and door were damaged when the would-be robbers entered the building, Gallant said, but “nothing of value was taken.”
“We’re working with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department,” Gallant said, “trying to see if we can gather any evidence to see if (Wednesday’s break-in) could be linked to the string of burglaries” that have plagued Franklin County in the past few weeks.
Police have no leads yet in the case, Gallant said, but are in the process of getting “ourselves a plan on what our next course of action will be.”
