New Gloucester – Democrat Christopher Rheault is running for House District 105, which includes Durham, New Gloucester and part of Lisbon.

Rheault, 28, is a teacher at Falmouth Middle School. Originally from Camden, he moved to New Gloucester in May 2003 and serves on the local Whatever Board.

He will center his campaign on education, health care and the environment. A strong supporter of education, Rheault brings a commitment to a fair and practicable school funding formula that provides access to high-quality public education to students across the state.

He supports Gov. John Baldacci’s Dirigo health-reform initiatives to broaden access to health care, bring down costs and improve the quality of care. “It’s time to expand DirigoChoice to cover more people and bring down the price,” Rheault said in a prepared statement.

On the environment, he said, “The importance of the natural environment to the people and character of Maine cannot be overstated. Our respect for the natural world and the value of the resources it provides defines who we are.”

He also recognizes that small business is the backbone of Maine’s economy and believes that more emphasis and resources need to be targeted to this important sector.
