Special service

NORWAY – The Norway Unitarian Universalist worshipers will be offered a special service led by the Welcoming Congregation Committee on Sunday, April 30.

Members of “Speak-Out” will address parishioners. The 11 a.m. service will be led by committee member Pat Shearman. The service will be held at the First Universalist Church, Norway, 479 Main St. Child care will be provided, and a coffee hour will follow downstairs. The choir, led by Heather Pierson, will practice at 9:30 a.m. Sunday and welcomes anyone who wants to sing to join the practice.

Nature club

OXFORD – The Twin Town Nature Club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, May 1, at the Congregational Church. There will be a potluck supper and viewing of the NOVA program, “Mystery of the Mega Flood.” The public is welcome. For more information, contact John Crumpton at 539-2902.

Church outreach

HEBRON – The members of Hebron Community Church Outreach met at the church to plan ahead and review the last rummage and food sale. The raffle drawing was held. Plans are being made for a public supper to be held Saturday, May 13, and a Strawberry Festival and rummage sale on or about July 1.

The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at the Hebron Community Baptist Church, Station Road. Those attending should bring items for the welcome bags, which are given to people moving into town.

Basket bingo

OXFORD – A Longaberger basket bingo will be held Sunday, May 7, at Oxford Legion Hall, junction of Route 121 and Skeetfield Road. Doors will open at 11 a.m. and bingo will begin at 12:30 p.m. Cost for tickets is $10, and there will also be special games, raffle baskets, door prizes and refreshments. Grange news

WEST PARIS – West Paris Grange 298 met at its hall, 4 Church St., April 6, welcoming back Pat and Fred Breame and Elsie Haynes.

An Easter parade hat contest was held with the following winners: prettiest, Bertha DeHaas; most original, Amy Andrews; and most unusual, Nancy Dewing.

Amy and Earl Andrews presented an illustrated program on Hawaii. Nancy Dewing gave a brief discourse on daylight savings time and its effect on daily lives.

The grange spring fair will be held at the hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20. For table rental, call 674-3241 or 674-3046. Rental is $5 each.

The spring supper will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 27, at West Paris Grange. Cost is adults, $6; children under 12, $3.

Turns 82

NORWAY – Wilma Warren Knox Taylor, formerly of North Stoneham, now of Norway Rehabilitation Center, 29 Marion Ave., observed her 82nd birthday on April 8.

Taylor was born in North Stoneham in 1924, daughter of Willis and Lottie (Adams) Warren. She attended school in North Stoneham. She married Fred Knox in 1943; then married Phillip Taylor in 1969. She had four children, Sally Annette (deceased) and Thomas Warren Knox, Kirby Holmes Knox and Kenneth Haley Knox.

Taylor was an active member of North Lovell Grange for many years.
