The Maine Resource Recovery Association, a nonprofit corporation offering cooperative marketing of recycled materials and educational services, will be awarding rebates totaling $15,000 to marketing members for their environmental stewardship.

Sandy River Recycling Association, for example, recipient of the highest amount awarded, serves 21 towns in the greater Farmington area with approximately 21,000 residents. Each community working with Sandy River Recycling will share the benefits of the award.

This award intends to serve as an incentive to marketing members to maintain and improve local recycling programs, and help the state reach its 50 percent recycling goal. Since awards are based on the volume of recycled material marketed through the association, communities that moved more material will receive a greater dollar amount.

This is the second consecutive year the Bangor-based organization has offered such an award to member towns.
