RUMFORD – Seven Students Working Against Tobacco members from Mountain Valley High School attended the second annual STOP.QUIT.RESIST. Youth Anti-Tobacco Summit in Bar Harbor on April 13 and 14.

The students presented a workshop, “Teaching Tobacco,” presenting projects that have been successful as well as challenging. Students talked about how they recruit additional members, what their expectations are as part of the group, and how they work with their school and community to raise awareness around tobacco use and prevention, physical activity and nutrition.

SWAT is led by Stephanie Thompson, youth coordinator for River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition in Rumford.
