NEW SHARON – A New Sharon man died and a Strong man was injured after the vehicles they were driving collided head-on Thursday morning on top of Mile Hill Road, also known as Route 27.

Ronald Boisvert, 40, of New Sharon died at the scene of the accident, which was reported at 6:45 a.m., Franklin County Sheriff Deputy Michelle St. Clair said.

Police believe Boisvert may have fallen asleep on his way home from work at NRF Distributors Inc. in Augusta when his small pickup truck crossed the centerline and struck a sport utility vehicle driven by Ernest Kempton, 38, of Strong, which was heading south in the opposite direction, St. Clair said.

There were no marks on the road to indicate Boisvert tried to avoid an accident, she said.

Kempton’s injuries included broken bones and he was transported by a NorthStar Emergency Medical Services ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, she said.

Deputies Cpl. Stephen Charles, David Rackliffe and Aaron Turcotte, who reconstructed the accident, assisted at the scene as did New Sharon firefighters and ambulance medics.

Maine State Trooper Scott Nichols was at home nearby and heard the crash and came out to help, St. Clair said.

The accident occurred about 1 to 1 miles from Route 2, she said.
