LOS ANGELES (AP) – Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott, both barefoot and wearing white, married Sunday on a private island in Fiji, People magazine reported.

The non-denominational ceremony was attended by only the bride and groom, the magazine said on its Web site.

“We didn’t want to wait another day to get married,” People quoted the actress as saying.

Added McDermott, an actor: “I’ve never had as much of a desire to get married and make a woman my wife as I’ve had with her. The feeling is overwhelming. We’re soul mates.”

Spelling, 32, and McDermott, 39, met last year while filming the TV movie “Mind Over Murder.”

Spelling was married at the time to actor-writer Charlie Shanian, who filed for divorce in October, a little more than a year after marrying the former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star. The divorce was finalized last month.

McDermott filed for divorce from his wife of 12 years, Mary Jo Eustace, in September.

McDermott proposed to Spelling on Christmas Eve in Toronto.

Spelling, the daughter of producer Aaron Spelling, is starring as a fictionalized version of herself in VH1’s “so noTORIous.”

A call and e-mail to her publicist were not immediately returned.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Earth’s growing population and reliance on nonrenewable resources are having a “crushing impact” on the planet, Al Gore said after a screening of a documentary on his efforts to educate people on global warming.

The 2000 Democratic presidential nominee’s movie and book about the issue, both called “An Inconvenient Truth,” are set for widespread release this month.

Gore has warned about the dangers of global warming for years, arguing that without major changes in the emission of greenhouse gases, the planet is likely to experience a dramatic increase in violent storms, infectious disease, deadly heat waves and sea levels that will force the evacuation of low-lying cities.

“There is danger in this crisis, but also tremendous opportunity,” Gore said Saturday during a question-and-answer session at the theater. Efforts to help revive the environment will create jobs and a healthier world, he said.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – Rocker Neil Young may want Sen. Barack Obama to run for president, but the freshman Democratic senator from Illinois isn’t having any of it – at least not yet.

In his latest album, “Living With War,” Young mentions Obama in the song “Lookin’ for a Leader.” In it, Young sings of the nation’s need for a new leader, singing, “Yeah maybe it’s Obama, but he thinks that he’s too young.”

The 44-year-old Obama said at a news conference before a fundraiser Saturday that he had read the lyrics. But despite being name-checked by a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Obama said he has no intention of running for president in two years.

That doesn’t mean Obama is dissing Young completely: “I’m a big Neil Young fan,” Obama said.

He and Young met in Chicago at last year’s Farm Aid concert. Obama said he sat in a trailer while Young rehearsed the song “Southern Man.”

“The acoustics in a trailer are terrific. It was unbelievable. … It was one of the best times that we’ve had since I was a senator,” Obama said.

For his part, Young doesn’t pin all his hopes on the Illinois senator. In the same song, Young says the needed leader may also be a woman, possibly a reference to Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York.

LONDON (AP) – Prince Charles’ stepdaughter Laura Parker Bowles, an art gallery manager, has married a former underwear model.

Laura Parker Bowles, the 27-year-old daughter of Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, married Harry Lopes, who modeled for Calvin Klein, at a private ceremony Saturday.

Camilla attended the ceremony, along with Charles and his sons, Princes William and Harry. It was held in Wiltshire, about 120 miles southwest of London.

Wearing a white dress by London designer Robinson Valentine, the bride, accompanied by her father, Andrew, arrived to cheers from the 500 well-wishers who had gathered.

Harry and William, who was accompanied by his girlfriend, Kate Middleton, were also cheered.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Singer Ashlee Simpson says she wants to wait to get married – unlike her big sister Jessica.

The 21-year-old revealed in an interview with Teen People in its June/July edition that she has watched her newly single sister “go through a really hard time” and that tying the knot “is definitely not on my mind.”

While Ashlee Simpson said she was “absolutely in love” with her band mate and boyfriend Braxton Olita, she added that she’s taking it slow.

“There’s a lot of growing you do in your 20s, and I definitely want to wait until my late 20s or 30s or whenever the time is right,” she told the magazine.

Simpson’s singer-actress sister Jessica, 25, filed for divorce in December from Nick Lachey after three years of marriage.

Ashlee Simpson does hope to follow in Jessica’s footsteps in another way – acting.

“I’d like to do a really great movie by the time I’m 25,” she said, adding that she was currently reading scripts and looking at films with a style like writer-director Quentin Tarantino’s.

Her summer tour began Saturday in West Palm Beach, Fla.
