AUBURN – Three St. Dominic Regional High School students took home the first-place trophy from the New England Key Club convention held on March 31 to April 2.

Senior Katie St. Pierre, junior Adam Blais and freshman Michael Girouard represented the club in the talent competition at this year’s convention, performing live to a crowd of 2,000 students and advisers.

The students sang “Louder than Words,” the closing song from the off-Broadway musical “Tick, Tick…Boom!” by the late Jonathan Larson. Larson is better known for his creation of the hit musical “Rent.” “Tick, tick… BOOM” is an autobiography of his life and the struggle to remain true to his heart. The song is an anthem to the importance of remaining true to one’s self.

One act a club is allowed, and judging is done in two parts, both weighing equally on the final results. The first is based upon the judge’s view of talent, and the second is based upon audience reaction.

The students received a plaque for their achievement and an invitation to participate in the talent competition at the Key Club International Convention on July 1 to 5 in Boston.

The students are active participants in the Key Club. St. Pierre is vice president and has been a member of the club for the past four years. Blais is in his third year with the club, and Girouard his first. He also holds one of the two freshmen representative positions. All three are also active in the Drama Society, as well as other clubs and sports.
