ANDOVER – Mary Adams of the Maine Citizens Alliance, which is promoting a “yes” vote on the forthcoming Taxpayer Bill of Rights, will be the speaker at the Tuesday, June 20, meeting of the Oxford County Republican Committee at the First Congregational Church, Elm Street.
The social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. will be followed by the speaker and business meeting. All area Republicans are invited.
A meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 11, at Stan Howe’s residence, 18 Broad St., Bethel. It will be the annual picnic hosted by the Bethel Town Republican Committee.
At the May 9 meeting of the committee held at the Wilkins House in Waterford, Republican voters heard from those running in contested primaries.
In House District 91, Mark Egeberg of Bethel outlined his beliefs. A rival in the race, Harry Faulkner, also of Bethel, spoke also.
In the race for Oxford County Sheriff, Alan Carr of Albany cited his 34 years in law enforcement, and his opponent, Christopher Wainwright of Canton, pointed to his 16 years as deputy in the sheriff’s department and his recent intensive training at the FBI Academy.
Jeffrey Fagan of Paris, running for election to a full term on the county commission, reviewed his brief record on the commission. His opponent in the primary, Caldwell Jackson of Oxford, was not present due to a previous engagement.
Also present were State Reps. Bruce Hanley, R-Paris, Arlan Jodrey, R-Bethel, and Jim Hamper, R-Oxford, as well as State Sen. David Hastings, R-Fryeburg, County Commissioner Dave Duguay and State Senate candidate Len Greaney of Rumford.
Representatives of the U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins gave reports on their respective senator’s activities.
