EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – The New Jersey Devils have completed their purchase of the American Hockey League franchise in Lowell, Mass.

The Devils announced the agreement in March and formally closed the deal on Wednesday, but financial terms were not disclosed. The team will now be known as the Lowell Devils, and it marks the first time the Devils have owned an AHL affiliate since the 1992-93 season.

Previously, the Albany River Rats had a working agreement to serve as New Jersey’s top AHL affiliate since 1993-94.

The two teams won dual AHL/NHL championships during the 1994-95 season.
