BETHEL – More than 50 artists and artisans will display and sell their wares at Bethel’s 17th annual Art Fair on Saturday. The event will offer food, music, children’s activities, and fireworks on the Bethel Common.

Rosalie Holiday of the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce said the fair will include 30 artists displaying “wall-hung” art and 20 artisans. Besides paintings and photographs, visitors to the fair will find jewelry, woodenware, sculpture and pottery. All of the 50 exhibitors are local, and include some new faces and many returning favorites.

Maine instrumentalist Conni St. Pierre will perform throughout the day. St. Pierre’s relaxing music is popular among practitioners of yoga and massage. She plays a wide variety of instruments, including the alto flute, Japanese shakuhachi, keyboards and native flute.

Yodeler Jewel Clark and Don Katlin will perform at the gazebo between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Fairgoers are invited to bring a picnic lunch and lawn chair to enjoy the day’s entertainment.

Those who don’t pack a picnic will have plenty to choose from on the common. Rotary will return with its traditional fare of hot dogs and hamburgers. Bethel’s Best Pizza, Brewster’s Roadhouse, the Cafe at Bethel Outdoor Adventure, and Legends Restaurant at Sunday River will also be selling food.

Children may have their faces painted or create their own work of art at the Mahoosuc Kids Association’s children’s area.

At noon, judges will announce first and second prizes in painting and photography, as well as honorable mentions in each category. Artists and artisans will be invited to donate an item to a raffle to be held at 3:30, giving visitors a chance to go home with their own work of art.

The fair begins at 9 a.m. and closes at 4 p.m. There will be a fireworks display at dusk, around 9:15.
