SABATTUS – Selectmen revisited a sewage problem Tuesday night that has seen the town office’s pipes backup off and on this year.
Gravel that seeped into the pipe blocking some sewage flow was removed but Selectman Mark Duquette said what he believes to be the root of the problem will be looked at later this week.
With some investigating, Duquette noticed that the contractor of the municipal building was supposed to use 4-inch piping. In some spots 3-inch piping was used instead. Duquette said where the two pipe sizes meet is where the backup occurs.
This will not be an easy fix, Selectman Guy Desjardins said at a previous meeting. “The very floor we are standing on will possibly need to be ripped up.”
Duquette said there is a small section near the building’s elevator that can be chiseled away to inspect the pipe size.
